Camera to Cloud (C2C) is improving the way production teams share footage with remote collaborators by offering a fast, easy and secure method to transfer media and collaborate in real-time. This technology creates a direct path from production to post-production, allowing media to be transferred from C2C-certified devices over standard network connections to the cloud from any location. As a result, footage can be viewed, approved, and edited almost immediately and from anywhere, significantly speeding up the production process.
C2C workflows enable media to be sent from any location using C2C-approved devices, including all Connect products from Atomos. The Atomos Connect Series features the Ninja Phone, Zato, Ninja/Ninja Ultra (with Connect Module) and the Shogun/Shogun Ultra. Thanks to these devices, editors can start working as soon as the footage arrives in the cloud and other stakeholders, or crew members can review and provide feedback. Even if there is no data connection near the camera, uploading begins automatically once a connection is established. Thanks to the updated Atomos monitor units, speed isn’t a concern with built in Wi-Fi 6 and 6E (Ultra Models). This ensures that media can always find its way to the cloud efficiently and reliably from anywhere, making the workflow seamless.
Depending on the chosen C2C platform—such as Atomos Cloud Studio: which supports Frame.io (powered by Adobe), Sony Ci media, or now MediaSilo from EditShare—users can easily review clips through a web browser or app. The files sent via C2C contain matching timecode and metadata, ensuring that edits can be conformed with the full-resolution media once it becomes available. This method not only allows for the instant upload of footage from the camera directly to the cloud but also bypasses the traditional, slower methods of transferring media for editing.
Atomos has expanded the Camera to Cloud workflows with its Connect product range and Atomos Cloud Studio (ACS). Now, a wide variety of devices—including digital cinema cameras, mirrorless cameras, DSLRs, PTZ cameras, and the recently released Atomos Ninja Phone, can seamlessly integrate into cloud-based workflows. This accessibility allows more filmmakers to leverage the advantages of cloud technology at a reasonable price range.
Security of data is always a concern with wireless connections, luckily Atomos’ C2C workflow prioritises the secure transfer of media files. By using encrypted connections and secure cloud storage solutions, it ensures that valuable footage is protected from unauthorised access during the transfer process and while stored in the cloud. With footage available in the cloud immediately after being shot, only team members with access, such as directors, editors, and producers, can review, approve, and provide feedback on the content in real-time.
Camera to Cloud is particularly beneficial in both film and television production, where timely yet secure access to footage is crucial for maintaining tight schedules. In live event coverage, such as sports or concerts, C2C enables rapid editing and sharing of highlights or crucial moments with audiences almost instantaneously. News teams can use C2C to quickly transfer footage from the field to the newsroom, allowing for faster news dissemination. And clients can upload event content the same day to their social channels for an ongoing event, thanks to C2C’s quick uploads and real-time collaboration.
Overall, Camera to Cloud (C2C) technology enhances the production process by providing a fast, easy, and secure method for sharing media. It fosters real-time collaboration, reduces delays, and improves overall workflow efficiency, making it an invaluable tool for modern production teams. Find all the Atomos Connect range below.
