Calm in the Hustle and Bustle

It was autumn in the Big Apple. Filmmaker Florent Piovesan took a stroll through a busy concrete jungle with his new eye – the full frame cinema camera and Wise Advanced memory cards – to document the bustling city, slowly. From a vibrant park, magnificent skyscraper to a roaring subway, Florent took advantage of Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K’s newest features of a massive full frame sensor with a native resolution of 6048 x 4032, and also the unique open gate 3:2 image ratio.

The image has so much detail and depth! Being able to shoot Open Gate really changed my way of framing a shot, and New York was the perfect place to use that.

Compared to filmmakers who carry gimbals or tripods for shooting travel scenes, Florent preferred to be light and nimble for more immersive and authentic feels.

Speaking to the magic behind his films, Florent humbly shared that composition and colour-grading have an immense impact on his pieces.

I want my audience to feel immersed in what they are watching and experience the place the same way I did. I always try to put the emphasis on composition instead of movement and focus on the quiet moments with a touch of minimalism.

Do what you like the way you want it because things change too quickly. And don’t rush. It takes time to discover what you like to shoot and what stories you like to tell.
