Magewell Delivers Global CHOGM Coverage

Magewell’s IP production and streaming solutions played a key role in the successful broadcast of the 2024 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Samoa, supporting international production specialist MiseOpoint in delivering coverage of one of the world's most significant diplomatic gatherings.

Held every two years, CHOGM brings together leaders from across the Commonwealth, the 2024 event welcomed dignitaries including His Majesty King Charles III. To meet the demands of comprehensive international broadcast coverage, New Caledonia-based broadcast services provider MiseOpoint selected a range of Magewell technologies for production, encoding, decoding and signal distribution.

The deployment centred on Magewell’s Director Mini portable production and switching system, Ultra Encode AIO live encoders, Pro Convert NDI® to HDMI decoders and the Modator 2U modular IP conversion platform. Together, the solutions enabled reliable video contribution, flexible signal distribution and streamlined production workflows throughout the event.

According to Thomas Roux, Director of MiseOpoint, Director Mini was used for forum production alongside two PTZ cameras, while Ultra Encode AIO units handled both primary and isolated camera feeds during major moments including the arrival of King Charles III, the opening ceremony and the final press conference. The Modator platform and Pro Convert decoders were used to distribute feeds across the media centre, as well as to venue displays providing localised content.

The success of the deployment extended beyond the event itself. Following CHOGM, the Ultra Encode AIO encoders were integrated into the infrastructure of TV9, Samoa’s national broadcaster, where they are now used for social media streaming and contribution feeds to the broadcaster’s national digital television headend.

In the TV9 deployment, dedicated Ultra Encode AIO units provide primary and backup IP links using H.265 NDI HX3 streams, with failover functionality ensuring uninterrupted operation. On the receiving side, Pro Convert decoder modules distribute content across multiple systems, creating a resilient and scalable workflow for broadcast delivery.

The project highlights the growing role of IP-based production technologies in delivering reliable, high-quality coverage of major international events, while demonstrating the flexibility and robustness of Magewell’s solution portfolio in both temporary and permanent broadcast environments.
