The original Panasonic DVCPro Varicam HD retailed for around £50,000. The current PX800 handheld camcorder, is on sale for around a fifth of the cost and is arguably better in every respect than its older, more expensive relative. The GH4R is a fiftieth of the cost and can do things designers of the early 2000s couldn't dream about.

Price is no longer an indicator of ability.
