Why your media may be more important than your camera

Filming endangered species in their native ecosystems, Thorsten headed to the Brazil’s biggest tropical wetland, Pantanal. With high humidity, temperatures up-to 40°C and tropical rainstorms, the wetlands present a plethora of challenges for technology. 

Most Pantanal floodplains are submerged during the rainy seasons. Photographers hoping for a chance to capture rare animal species must face harsh conditions with equipment able to meet the challenge. Home to hundreds of rare mammalian, bird, reptile, amphibian and fish species, including Jaguar, Ocelot, Giant River Otter, Marsh Deer and the Hyazinth Macaw, photographers need patience and good timing. 

For the project, Milse selected a DSLR with dual CFexpress card slots. This gave him a very fast burst rate to shoot several hundred RAW photos in quick succession, as well as extended 5.5K RAW movies in the highest quality.
