Life is full of unrepeatable moments,
says wildlife photographer Thorsten Milse.
You know if your camera is water-resistant. And if it’s not, you can just use a protective jacket. You’re then ready to travel, prepared for the shoot. But the reliability of your recording media is no less important than your camera (it’s actually more vital, as a camera can be replaced; your files can’t.)
Filming endangered species in their native ecosystems, Thorsten headed to the Brazil’s biggest tropical wetland, Pantanal. With high humidity, temperatures up-to 40°C and tropical rainstorms, the wetlands present a plethora of challenges for technology.
Most Pantanal floodplains are submerged during the rainy seasons. Photographers hoping for a chance to capture rare animal species must face harsh conditions with equipment able to meet the challenge. Home to hundreds of rare mammalian, bird, reptile, amphibian and fish species, including Jaguar, Ocelot, Giant River Otter, Marsh Deer and the Hyazinth Macaw, photographers need patience and good timing.
For the project, Milse selected a DSLR with dual CFexpress card slots. This gave him a very fast burst rate to shoot several hundred RAW photos in quick succession, as well as extended 5.5K RAW movies in the highest quality.
Aware of the hazardous environment, Milse opted for CFexpress media from Wise.
“The cards from Wise Advanced have proven themselves in the very humid and hot climate. Even when the card accidentally fell into the sand during a change, it worked perfectly after a short blow! This is very important for me in extreme climatic conditions – that you know that your production is stored safely!”
