What is NDI HX?
Why is it taking the world by storm?
Can it replace SDI and HDMI? What manufacturers are involved?
When you search ‘What is NDI HX?’ on Google, you get this answer:
NDI is a high quality, low latency, IP video transmission standard pioneered by NewTek. ...
NDI HX is the latest “High Efficiency” version of NDI which has been optimized to open up a whole new world of devices using built-in h.264 compression chips.
But the answer, in reality, is nothing short of revolutionary and signals the death knell of SDI cable not only in broadcast and streaming but in the AV world too.
There are now a number of major video gear manufacturers adopting NewTek’s NDI or NDI HX solutions.
If I plug my Lumens or Panasonic PTZ cameras into my gigabit LAN network, my Wirecast Gear or Panasonic HLC-100 switcher will instantly offer these PTZ cameras as live video sources.
All using the secure IP network that my PC sits on and its humble CAT 5 cable - that I’ve shunned for fear of getting lost in IP octets and subnet masks.
But you too can fear no more, the mysteries of IP addresses and such are dealt with in the background and a humanised drop down allows you to choose your NDI HX video source.
The promised land is here; AV, one world, one cable, under NDI HX.
