What is the difference between EDIUS Pro 7 and EDIUS Elite 7?

EDIUS Pro 7 is targeted at the professional, standalone user. EDIUS Elite 7 is a systemized version aimed at editors within a network-connected production infrastructure and includes K2 server/storage and Grass Valley® STRATUS® connectivity.
The primary capabilities of EDIUS Elite 7, which includes all EDIUS Pro 7 features, are:
  • Direct access to the Grass Valley K2 file system to provide for editing-in-place for multiple edit stations. Features also include direct K2 clip and K2 program import and export while preserving Dolby E/AC3 audio (audio bitstream pass-through)
  • K2 Clip Capture, which lets editors record directly into the K2 SAN from their networked EDIUS system. With I/O hardware for EDIUS—such as STORM™ 3G or STORM Mobile—editors can record K2-compatible files, which can be edited even while growing.
  • Simul Edit, enabling multiple EDIUS clients to simultaneously edit live video being ingested by another EDIUS client in a network editing environment (SAN or NAS). Only the capture client requires an EDIUS Elite 7 license—the remaining clients require only EDIUS Pro 7 licenses.
  • Interchange of GV STRATUS clips and sequences. Sequences created with GV STRATUS can be immediately used on the EDIUS timeline. There are also components such as an Assignment List plug-in to integrate GV STRATUS with NRCS systems.

EDIUS 7: New Features

EDIUS 7 is a 10-bit non-linear editing software programme which focuses on fast, real-time, multi-layer editing. As an editor that does not require file transcoding to an intermediate format, EDIUS is ideal for time-critical fast-turnaround production. Version 7 focuses on these core values of the software: image quality, speed of operation, compatibility, reliability and ease-of-use.

Image quality

New video formats and 4K codecs now supported

EDIUS 7 extends native 4K format support enabling editors to deliver the highest image quality. New codecs and formats include:

  • 4K M-JPEG for Canon 1DC
  • XAVC Intra 4K for the new generation of Sony PMW-F5/F55 cameras
  • Ultra-Intra 200 and AVC-Long G, for support of Panasonic’s new camcorders
  • New exporter writes H.264 4K files at up-to 200Mb/s

New support for 3rd party hardware and software

  • EDIUS now supports 3rd party hardware

Initially input / output boards from Blackmagic Design and Matrox (monitoring only) are supported, with AJA systems coming soon. Devices such as the all-powerful DeckLink 4K Extreme, the flexible MX02 and DeckLink Mini Monitor gives EDIUS users huge flexibility in the way they configure their workstations.

Blackmagic support includes:

DaVinci Resolve: professional grading and coloring round-trip with Resolve is also now built-in, with EDL importing and exporting.

For high quality ingest, real-time monitoring and deck control, EDIUS 7 is compatible with a large range of existing Grass Valley HDMI, SDI and analogue capture and output devices.

Speed of Operation & Reliability

Complete new architecture

As EDIUS 7 is now 64-bit, it handles large amounts of RAM efficiently, giving power users more robust and slicker experience than ever. Support for the latest 64-bit versions of Windows gives editors access to the most reliable and efficient platform.

Ease of Use

New core editing tools

With EDIUS, core editing functions are handled efficiently: users do not have to jump in and out of different software to access routine tools and effects. EDIUS 7 therefore now includes:

  • Improved Gaussian blur filters
  • Enhanced loudness monitoring
  • Faster image and animation importing
